General information
The history of the department dates back to 1961, when the "Electrical Technics" chair at the Kazakh Chemical Technology Institute was established. The Chair was a general education chair and taught the subject of "Electrical Technics" to students of technological specialities.
In 1994, documents were prepared and the specialisation "Electric drive and automation of technological complexes" was opened. In the same year, the department recruited students for the specialisation "Electric Drive and Automation of Technological Complexes". Associate Professor V.U. Smogorzhevsky was appointed head of the Chair. The Chair was a general education chair and taught the subject of "Electrical Technics" to students of technological specialities
In 1979 Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ilyasov R.M. was appointed head of the chair and he was at the head of the chair till 1990.
In 2006, by the decision of the Council of M.Auezov SKSU, the Chair of " Electroenergetics" was established. The chair trained students and master's students in "Electroenergetics" in a number of specializations. The teaching staff of the chair was engaged in scientific research in the field of power converter technology, electric drive, electrical technologies. Head of the chair is Associate Professor A.F. Romanenko.
The teaching staff of the chair have been involved in research in the field of power converter technology for electrical drives and electrical engineering.
From its first graduation in 1999 to the present, the department has trained more than 1,000 highly qualified energy specialists.
In 2010 the chair was renamed by the rector's order. The new name of the department "Energetics and renewable energy systems" is related to the opening of another specialty - "Heat Рower Еngineering", as well as the development of the scientific direction of non-traditional and renewable energy. In the 2013-2014 academic year, the first bachelor's degree in "5B071700 Heat Рower Еngineering" was graduated.
In speciality 5B071800 - Electroenergetics, students were trained in 3 (three) educational training paths:
- Electric drive and automation of technological complexes ;
- Electric Power Supply ;
- Аlternative and renewable energy sources.
In order to improve the efficiency of the development of educational programmes, in 2019 the training areas were allocated:
- EP 6B077150 - "Electroenergetics";
- EP 6B07151 - "Electric Power Supply".
- EP 6B07140 - "Heat Рower Еngineering".
Educational programmes are aimed at the implementation of the State Programme "Digital Kazakhstan".
The main activities of the department correspond to the conduct of the main positions and results of the educational programmes, which are the main flagship of research and teaching disciplines in the field of Electrical Power Engineering, Power Supply Systems and Thermal Power Engineering.
